“The Struggle is Real”

You may have heard of the story about the boy who brought home a caterpillar and watched it form into a cocoon and when the boy saw that the butterfly was struggling to come out the boy was concerned so he used scissors to make the hole bigger not realizing that the struggle the butterfly was going through was a normal process. Struggling is an important part of the growth process. We can either take the struggles we face in life and let them take us down and walk away or we can learn from our struggles. There is a reason for our struggles.

In my own life my struggle has been running away from my problems instead of facing them and dealing with them. Any time that I’ve found something too hard I would give up. I would believe the lie that “I’m not good enough.” That lie came from two events in my life. It came from when I was a young girl when I was being bullied. I never felt good enough to them, like there was something wrong with me or that I was doing something wrong. I also struggled with a learning disability and learned differently than my other classmates. Later on in life I learned that everyone learns differently and I stopped caring about what other people thought of me. Real friends will like you for who you are and stick by your side regardless of whatever your differences may be. Those were important lessons I learned. I have made the decision to embrace and accept the struggles I deal with and because of that the rewards on the other side have been worth it. Another lie I believed growing up was that I was stupid. It took me until a few weeks ago to open up my eyes to the fact that I’m smart in my own way and something changed. It’s like a switch went off. As soon as I told myself that I started to believe that I am smart. I’m still working on this and still have my moments, we are human. It’s been a habit of mine for years and habits are hard to break that’s why you take it one step at a time.

Sometimes the struggle is really real and we should embrace it and we should embrace the process. If you keep going, your struggles can turn into something beautiful! Sometimes things just take time. You’re not alone. Everyone has their struggles. Just know that if you work through them there will almost always be a reward on the other side. Things don’t happen overnight, you need to give yourself time.
